    Mark W. Lindsay’s extensive education commenced at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Mark proceeded with his education at the California Western School of Law, where in 1976 he earned the professional degree of Juris Doctor, and was chosen for the honor of Law Review. Mark then attended San Diego State University, acquiring a Masters of Accountancy, focusing in Taxation, in 1980.

    Mark invested ten years at one of the international CPA firms, Deloitte, from 1982 to 1992. After this period of working as a Senior Tax Manager at Deloitte, Mark partnered with fellow colleague Stephen Brownell to found their own accounting firm, Lindsay & Brownell, LLP in 1992.

    Along with attaining extensive work experience and establishing his own firm, Mark also dedicated eight years serving as a lecturer in tax and accounting at San Diego State University.

    Mark lends his knowledge and experience by being involved with various local organizations. Mark currently serves as Chairman of the Board for the Lamb’s Players Theater Endowment Trust, is an active member of the YMCA of San Diego County Gift Planning Advisors Council as well as the Finance Council of the Diocese of San Diego. Formerly, Mark was Chairman of the Board representing the American Lung Association of San Diego, sat on the Sharp Coronado Hospital Board of Directors, was on the committee for the Scripps Foundation of Planned Giving and has held the position of Executive Director for the San Diego County Bar Foundation.

    Stephen J. Brownell, CPA

    Stephen J. Brownell began his higher education at the University of California, Davis where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1982. Steve continued on to San Diego State University where he attained a Masters of Accountancy, specializing in Taxation, in 1985.

    Upon graduation from San Diego State University in 1985, Steve started his career in San Diego at the international CPA firm, Deloitte, where he held the position of tax manager. In 1992 Steve partnered with colleague Mark Lindsay to establish Lindsay & Brownell, LLP.

    In addition to being a founding partner of Lindsay & Brownell, LLP, Steve is a contributing author to the Bureau of National Affairs’ Tax Practice Series and has served as a lecturer in tax and accounting at local educational institutions such as San Diego State University, Southwestern and Grossmont colleges.

    Steve’s contributions and involvement extend beyond the firm. Steve has taken an active role within the community and has volunteered his time serving on a variety of organizations’ boards. Currently, Steve is a member of the Board of Management of the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA, serving on the Executive and Master Site Development committees and is a past board chair. He is the Board President and Treasurer of Pacific Intercultural Exchange, a student exchange organization. He has also served on the Board of the Encinitas National Little League, was a member of the San Diego Zoological Society's President's Pride Advisory Board and a member of the Planned Giving Executive Committee at University of California, San Diego.

    Lisa M. Betyar, CPA

    Lisa M. Betyar obtained both her undergraduate and graduate education degrees from the University of San Diego; she acquired her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting in 1987, and continued on to attain a Masters of Science, concentrating in Taxation, in 1989.

    Lisa dedicated five years as a Tax Consultant, from 1988 to 1993, with the international CPA firm, Deloitte. In 1993, Lisa joined Mark Lindsay and Stephen Brownell to become the third partner of Lindsay & Brownell, LLP.

    Lisa donates her time and expertise by being involved in multiple organizations throughout San Diego County. Presently, Lisa serves as the treasurer of the St. Germaine’s Children's Charity and recently joined Walden Family Services as a board member; additionally, she is a member of Children’s Hospital Trusts and Estate Committee, as well as the Las Patronas organization. Lisa also volunteers as a Finance Committee Member for the San Diego Foundation and as the director and board member of Seacoast Commerce Bank. Previously, Lisa volunteered as the sorority chapter advisor to Gamma Phi Beta at the University of San Diego.
